Black Eyed Peas Curry

I had this sitting in my pantry idly for a long time! Last time I cooked it.. as sundal. So wanted to try something different this time... 

Number of servings - 3-4
Black eyed peas - 1 and 1/2 cup
Onion - 1 chopped
Tomato - 1 chopped

Red chilli powder - 1 spoon

Cumin powder - 1/2 spoon
Amchur powder - 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 spoon
Garam masala powder - 1/2 spoon

To Grind:

Tomato - 1 
Cashew nuts - 5
Jalapeno - 1
Garlic - 5 pods
Ginger - 1 inch

To Temper:



  1. Pressure cook the peas (I din't soak it over night... just cooked it to one whistle and then 15 mins on low flame)

  1. Grind the items to paste in a blender. Heat oil in a wok ans splutter items to temper then add chopped onions and saute well. Add tomatoes and saute well

  1. Add the ground paste and saute. Add all the masala powders and cook well. Add salt.

  1. Finally add the cooked peas and cook. Squeeze lemon as required and add chopped cilantro.
