Simple Vegetable Biryani

Don't we all love those time saving one pot meals :) This is one of that kind. The process is inspired from Vah Re Vah Chef.

Number of servings - 3
Mixed veggies - 1 cup (I used beans, carrots, bell peppers, green peas)
Onion - 1 chopped
Jalapeno - 1 chopped
Ginger garlic paste - 1 spoon
Basmati rice - 1 cup
Water - 1 and 1/2 cup
Yoghurt - 1/2 cup
Red Chilli powder - 1 spoon
Cilantro Powder (malli thool)- 2 spoons
Cumin Powder - 1 spoon
Garam Masala powder - 1tsp
Cilantro chopped

To temper:
Bay leaf


  1. Wash and soak the rice separately. Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan and splutter items to temper. Add ginger garlic paste and onions and saute well
  2. Add the veggies and saute. (do not over cook the veggies as they cook along with rice later) Add all the masala powders and saute
  3. Add yoghurt, cilantro  and saute well. Add salt and water and let it boil lightly. Then drain the soaked rice to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally. 
Yummy biryani is ready.. we had this with carrot raita. 

P.S. I'm down with cold, cough and what not... hate the weather!
