Tomato Rice/Biryani

I'm not a big fan of tomato rice usually. But this recipe from a friend got me hooked on to it. I like to make it often now. It is real quick and flavorful!


Number of servings - 2 - 3
Ingredients:
Tomatoes - 2
Red Onion - 1
Ginger - 1 inch
Garlic - 3-4 big pods
Red chilli powder - 1/2 spoon
Basmati rice - 1 cup
Water - 2 cups
Salt
Turmeric powder

To temper
Cinnamon
Cloves
Bay leaf

Procedure:

  • Cook basmati rice as you always do and keep aside
  • Make paste of the tomatoes in the blender. 
  • Heat oil in the wok, splutter items to temper. Add onions and saute well. Add shredded/minced ginger garlic and saute well
  • Add the tomato paste, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and let it cook well until the raw smell fades. 
  • Mix the paste with the rice for a very tasty tomato rice :) You can even make the paste before hand.
