Red poha (aval) upma

Recently I came across the red poha in the store. I'm used to make upma with white poha all the time for breakfast (my kid loves it). So I was curious to try out the same with the red aval.

Red poha is rich in fiber and nutrition compared to the white one. The upma did come out well. Its reall quick and done in a jiffy!

Number of servings : 1 Adult + 1 Kid :)
Red Poha - 1 cup
Onion - 1/2
Water - 1 cup
Salt - to taste

Optional - can try adding shredded carrots to it.

To temper:
Red chilli - 1
Mustard seeds
Urad dal

  • Heat a spoon of oil and splutter mustard seeds, urad dal, red chilli (you can use green chilli.. I substituted it with red because green one is really hot for kids)
  • Add chopped onions and saute
  • Then add the water and salt and wait until its heated
  • When the water starts to boil, add the poha and keep stirring. Upma is done!

Knitted wash cloth

I'm not a knitting person at all... but I learnt this wash cloth pattern from our library. If you know the basic stitches to kint and purl (I learnt it through youtube videos) this is an easy peezy pattern for completely new beginners like me :)

Love its uses! The wash cloth has been through a series of machine washes too.

Easy breezy kids friendly pasta

Hello ladies! yet another kids friendly recipe. Now a days most of the cooking is done to suit my kid's taste. This one is like a saver to me , I could make this very quickly by adding all available vegetables. Also, you could make it & put it in a hot pack and take it for an outing. I'm sure kids looove pasta!

Serving - 1 kid
Pasta (most of the times I use whole grain/whole wheat)
Onion - 1/2
Mixed vegetables - 1 cup (the day I took this pic I had only red bell peppers, hence the absence of other vegetables)
Tomato - 1/2
Ketchup - 1 spoon
Turmeric powder
Salt - to taste
Olive oil - (I use olive oil only for making any pasta recipe, you can use canola oil too)

To Temper
Mustard seeds
Urad Dal

  • Cook the pasta as shown on the box. When boiling the pasta add few drops of oil
  • In a pan heat a spoon of oil and splutter mustard seeds, urad dal and saute onion and tomato
  • Add turmeric powder and mixed vegetables and add salt and saute well
  • Add ketchup and saute few seconds and then add the cooked pasta and mix well
Note: If you are in real hurry... you can make this minus the vegetables too. I always like to add vegetables to the pasta.

Revamp of my blog

Hey All...

Its been a reaaalllll long time since I posted anything on the blog. Its been so crazy busy with my kid since he started walking and not to forget the RUNNING! :) I always end up taking pictures and saving them and finding no time to post.

So I finally decided to revamp my blog with new name, title, template and start all over again. This is to keep myself motivated.

I'll end this post here by promising myself to post regularly!
