Channa Masala

This was one of the recipes on the menu when we had friends over at home last weekend. The measurements given holds good for 6 persons.



Ingredients:
Channa - 2 cups
Onion(chopped) - 1
Tomato(chopped) - 1
Oil
Cinnamon
Cloves
Cardamom
Curry leaves
Lemon
Salt

To Paste:
Coconut - 3/4 cup
Onion (big) - 1
Chilli powder - 3 spoons
Coriander powder - 2 spoons
Fennel seeds - 1 spoon
Ginger - 1 inch
Garlic - 10 pods

Procedure:

  • Soak the channa over night and pressure cook the channa for 5 minutes with salt
  • Saute the ingredients to paste in oil and grind them in the blender
  • Heat the oil, add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, curry leaves
  • Add the chopped onion and tomato and saute
  • Then add the ground paste and saute well
  • Add the channa and cook well. After removing from heat, squeeze lemon
  • Garnish with cilantro
